New! Mysore classes coming to central Manchester

Starting 5.30pm Wednesday 5 Feb 2025 at Central Methodist Building Oldham st.

This is a self-practice Mysore-style class where each student practices the Ashtanga sequence at their own pace and in their own time. You only need to practice up to your last given posture, making it a flexible and personalised approach to learning.

The teacher is there to guide you as needed, offer adjustments, and hold the space, ensuring a supportive and focused environment. Postures are introduced one at a time, allowing you to build your practice progressively and develop a strong foundation.

Often described as a private class in a group setting, this is an excellent opportunity to deepen your practice, explore further postures, and progress beyond the Primary Series if and when you’re ready.

Suitable for all levels of practitioner

There’s no need to be super advanced to join.

You simply need to remember some of the postures,

Are You Ready to start your yoga journey?

This 4-week course is designed for complete beginners, guiding you step by step through the transformative practice of Ashtanga yoga.

You’ll learn postures in small, manageable chunks, giving you the time and space to fully absorb each movement.

Repetition of postures is encouraged, helping you commit them to memory while gently building stamina and opening your body to the practice.

By the end of the course, you’ll have a short sequence of postures that you can confidently practice at home or in class.

This foundation will set you up to grow your practice over time, adding more postures as you progress—just as Ashtanga yoga is traditionally taught.

As Krishnamacharya wisely said, “If you can breathe, you can do yoga.” This course truly is suitable for everyone, no matter your age or fitness level.

Take this opportunity to discover the easiest and most authentic way to learn Ashtanga yoga.

Something to be so grateful for.
Manchester ashtanga yoga blog post obstacles to yoga
By Donna McCafferey January 23, 2021
The Yoga Sutras list all of the obstacles that stop you from doing yoga . We have all been there at one time or another. We all know that yoga is great for the mind and body but the mind often has different ideas about this and throws up different ways to stop you practicing.
What has modern yoga become ?
By Donna McCafferey November 14, 2020
Yoga is often portrayed with glossy pictures of young thin women, often on beaches, contorting themselves into complex and ever more acrobatic postures. I feel that the essence of yoga is becoming lost, it is no longer a search for spirituality and higher consciousness and is becoming more of a fitness regime aimed at gymnasts and dancers. A circus, complete with acrobats !
